Review of Aparajito (1956) by Andrew U — 13 Jan 2009
In one sense you could say that hardly anything happens in this film, because the drama is usually underplayed. But the use of non-actors, real people, real settings make the film feel more like you're witnessing real life rather than a dramatic representation of life.
The acting might have been improved through the use of professional actors, but some of the charm of the film would have been lost. Consider that this film was made in 1956 - you didn't see anything with this level of simplicity and realism in Hollywood at the time.
A unique film for its time,.
