Review of Anywhere but Here (1999) by Lauren ( — 20 May 2007
Susan Sarandon and Natalie Portman take to the screen together in 'Anywhere But Here', a story about a young girl foreced to leave her home and travel to Beverley Hills with her slightly insane mother.
Susan Sarandon is great in this film as a slightly over the edge fortysomething woman who's only way of 'making it' in the world is in the hope that her daughter will become an actress. Natalie Portman is fine as the moody daughter who doesn't really like her mum.
It's a simple film, with a simple premise.
I enjoyed watching it, but I wouldn't rave on about it. It had some moments to make you smile, a few to laugh and a number of bits to swith off at.
'Anywhere But Here' is a good film, not great, but good.
