Review of Anywhere but Here (1999) by Daniel M — 29 Oct 2008
Another bad Portman film. I can't say that I liked very much about it. Portman was good as the misunderstood daughter of sort of irrisponsable, and controlling mother Surandan. The premise is good, and I think the film had the potential of becoming a lot better, than it actually was.
Plus, the filmmakers stretch the film out to two hours, where a good 80 minute version, would have probably been easier on the viewers. The fact that it was slow moving, and it was meloncholy most of the time, made the film more dreadfull, and nowhere close to enjoyable.
Once again, has a good ending, but not at all worth sitting through for. Probably should've stayed a novel.
