Review of Any Given Sunday (1999) by Kyla D — 24 Jul 2009
This movie was actually interesting. That is, until Oliver Stone had to ruin it with his drugged out visuals yet again. I didn't think it would be possible to do stylistically in a movie. I'm here to tell you that it is.
Overall, everything else is good. The acting is solid with such a great cast, including Aaron Eckhart, James Woods, Dennis Quaid, Al Pacino, Jamie Foxx, Cameron Diaz, and LL Cool J. The plot is very easy to follow, and a lot of the football isms were most enjoyable.
But all of that goes downhill, in my opinion, when Oliver Stone decides to incorporate random background music that clashes too much with the scene, or random silhouettes of old football players in leather helmets that have no bearing on the way that Jamie Foxx plays Quarterback.
Also for the record, let it be known that Al Pacino isn't a bad guy in this movie, just in case I forget and make some reference to it, because he's ALWAYS the bad guy.
If you watch this movie, I guarantee you won't wanna watch it again. with Oliver Stone, I find once is sufficient.
