Review of Any Given Sunday (1999) by T.j. M — 07 Apr 2011
A flawed but interesting sports film. Pacino's acting like Pacino (a good thing) but I came away recognizing many of the standard Pacino elements: yelling, whiskey, emotionless eyes, and lengthy monologues.
His "inches" speech is well delivered but pales to Scent of a Woman and Devils Advocate. All the characters in the film are two dimensional and are very much type cast. The third act of the film suffers from too many plot lines inter-weaved which never culminate in a finished tapestry of narrative.
All in all it is a decent film and portrait of a sullied NFL but is hardly worth a re-watch.
