Oliver Stone's vision of the National Football League in the United States proved to be an explosive affair both on and off the screen as Al Pacino's fiery coach is charged with successfully leading a team of egotistical young athletes, including Jamie Foxx's new recruit Willie Beamon and seasoned pro LL Cool J, under the watchful eye of club benefactor Cameron Diaz.

The pressures on all of the cogs in the team's wheels are sharply observed as desperate measures are taken by all concerned to ensure that fruit in borne from the season. The star of this film is chiefly the director with the audience being treated to some memorable game scenes, especially from the match that took place on a rainy night, using slow motion techniques in perfect harmony with the situation.

The word from the set was that singers Jamie Foxx and LL Cool J almost came to blows whilst filming. There are a couple of scenes in which that rivalry is used to good effect. Thoroughly entertaining sports drama from the politically driven Stone who shows that he can take his foot off the pedal once in a while.
