Review of Anvil! The Story of Anvil (2008) by John T — 15 Jun 2009
I have to admit that I never heard of the Canadian Metal band, Anvil before this documentary about the band cam out. So many people were talking about this movie that I had to go and check it out. The story is about two childhood friends, Steve"Lips"Kudlow, the lead guitar player and singer, and Robb Reiner, the drummer( he is not the actor and the director who starred as Meathead in "All in The Family" and directed Spinal Tap), started a band when they were in high school.
They eventually got a record contract and they performed at a Metal festival in Japan alongside Bonjovi, The Scorpions,Whitesnake. The other bands sold millions and Anvil fell off of the Metal radar. They released thirteen records, they had dead end jobs, and were raising families, and at the age of fifty they were still hoping for their "Rock and Roll Dream.
" A swedish fan, Tiziani Arrogani, emailed Steve and she told him she wanted to be their manager and she will use her money to finance their tour of Europe. She obviously had no experience as a manager and the whole tour turned into a Spinal Tap moment.
The documentary had funny moments and sad moments. Despite the fact that their chances Rock and Roll stardom were slim, you hoped that they eventually found success.
