Review of Anvil! The Story of Anvil (2008) by Sam W — 19 Jun 2009
Brilliant, I loved it.
I listen to a fair few Metal/Rock bands and I love the genre, but I'd never even heard of Anvil before seeing this.
It's the story of one of the unluckiest metal bands in history, and it begins with a brief back story of a major metal festival took place back in the mid 80's. Amongst the bands that played that day were names that would go on to be huge successes such as Scorpions and Bon Jovi, and Anvil, but Anvil never quite made it to the big time.
Now years later, and middle aged, we learn that Anvil, whilst still performing, are now merely a part time band, and seen as a bit of a failure , but no one really knows why.
This documentary then focuses Anvil's aim to finally make it big, and be the successful band that everyone knows they can be.
It's a film about relationships, trying to beat the odds, the realities of life, and always keeping the dream alive.
I really loved it, its a funny, heartfelt, moving film that definately deserves to be looked at.
5/5.
