Review of Anvil! The Story of Anvil (2008) by Will T — 07 Jul 2009
How can anybody NOT identify with this movie in some way, shape, or form.
Here's a story about a band with such a cult fan-base and recognized as an inspiration to many other rock bands that have legions of fans around the world but without the luck of having the savvy to sell themselves or any of their records.
The documentary is strangely reminiscent of "This is Spinal Tap" proving that life can imitate art that can also imitate life. There are things that happen that are so absurd (not being able to find a club they were supposed to play at overseas so they never played the club), you have to laugh -- but they HAPPENED, which just adds to the humor. The band even has a member named "Robb Reiner", which is fitting.
Overall, this documentary is satisfying, despite missing the fairy tale payoff, and required viewing for all fans of not only JUST rock n' roll, but music as well.
