Review of Anvil! The Story of Anvil (2008) by Hunter D — 06 Oct 2009
A great documentary about two things that go together extremely well: heavy metal and male bonding. This movie really is like a real-life SPINAL TAP, and it will inevitably draw comparisons to it, as this is about a band (Anvil) that has a sound from a bygone era of music that is now seen in a more humorous light, and it shows us the trials and tribulations that the band goes through as they relentlessly pursue that elusive success they crave.
Plus their drummer's name is Robb Reiner. It's easy to make fun of the guys in Anvil, however I find their "never say die" attitude to be inspiring. These are guys that are never giving up on their dreams, and that alone demands respect, more so than someone who gives up what they love in favor of something deemed practical by their peers.
This movie is what heavy metal is all about, I'll be very surprised if I see a better movie this year.
