Review of Anvil! The Story of Anvil (2008) by Madeline M — 09 Dec 2009
I'm not a metal fan, but you don't need to be to enjoy this documentary. It's probably impossible not to get invested in Anvil, not to like them, and want them to succeed. They try SO HARD, and they love music so much, and have done for 34 years.
It's amazing. Comparisons to Spinal Tap are inevitable, and perhaps justified, but Anvil! The Story of Anvil never makes fun of its subjects, and it never condescends to them or the audience (I'm not saying Spinal Tap condescends, but let's be honest: it's a vicious movie, however hilarious it is).
