Review of Anvil! The Story of Anvil (2008) by Erno K — 09 Jan 2010
A pretty heartbreaking documentary. Anvil should probably be a huge band, when we keep in mind who some of their contemporaries were, but instead they are in total obscurity today.
In a way it's very cool to see 50-year-old men still rocking and reminiscing their glory days of years past, but on the other hand it's incredibly fucking sad. Old-timers had a dream, still have, and they just can't let it go.
It's actually pretty amazing that these dudes never had their big break, when you listen how some modern day rock legends talk about the band. Seems like they had all the tools, but for some reason it never happened for them.
I really liked the honesty of the film, the band members let the cameras capture some intimate moments and feelings. Makes it even more sad that they never got their dues when you get to know their personalities. Such is life, and it is never fair. Awesome, emotional documentary.
