Review of Anvil! The Story of Anvil (2008) by Mary H — 25 Jan 2010
This documentary explores the struggles of a Canadian metal band (who influenced such bands as Anthrax, Metallica, Twisted Sister and others) trying to make a dent in the record business. We follow them on a tour through Europe, playing to some crowds as small as five people. Witness the heartbreak as they have to borrow money from family to record an album with a top producer and risk it all for one last shot. Finally, find out if a festival show in Japan will bring the turnout they need to stay relevant and keep going.
Full of high melodrama, scraggly hair and die-hard fans, Anvil is the most entertaining documentary since "King of Kong: A Fist Full of Quarters.".
