Review of Anvil! The Story of Anvil (2008) by William H — 28 Jan 2010
Despite being a movie about a 30 year old running Heavy Metal band, this isn't about heavy metal. And despite being easily cast off as a real version of Spinal Tap, it isn't really that either. It explores people who never gave up on their shared dream or on each other, despite overhwhelming evidence they should. Anvil hasn't been relevant since the early 80's, yet they continue to tour (sort of), put out albums, and are waiting for their chance to finally make it (again). They work construction and catering service jobs in Canada, and band when they can.
This movie is dreams squandered, dreams lost, dreams reborn, dreams stillborn, funny dreams, in some heavy metal canuck jambalaya.
