Review of Anvil! The Story of Anvil (2008) by Trent J — 31 Jan 2010
Fantastic. It's a conflict of feeling inspired and saddened by them at the same time. Nice flow and pace, story's told in a straightforward documentary style with no frills. The easy way out would've been to poke fun at them, and you do chuckle at times of course, but that cheap route isn't taken at all.
One thing about metal guys is their genuine love and dedication for what they do and the music community they're in, despite pop culture and the critics saying what they do. These guys encompass that.
I grew up on this stuff and was expecting a love letter to that era like the Metal: Headbanger's Journey docs...but the music takes a backseat to the characters and their struggle.
