It's worth getting some information about Anvil before seeing this documentary. So Anvil is a metal band of the first wave which did not make it. There is no particular reason, because their work is good, similar to other highlty successful bands.
But Lips and Robb are still there, trying to realize their childhood dream of becoming rock stars. This documentary is about this: their day-to-day life, Robb turning 50, a crappy European tour, their 13th album they do not manage to distribute, all this...
It is amazing to see such joy in the eyes of Lips in front of all these failures and injustices. They stay true to their beliefs and that is what makes it beautiful; and that's also what I like in the metal world: simple (naive?) but strong feelings...
BUT, I wonder if the "real TV" side of this documentary is not affecting our judgement. Are the displayed emotions authentic? What impact has the scene-editing? What about the other musicians of Anvil? Anyway, I prefer to play it dumb and believe what is shown, it is much more enjoyable :').
PS: I read that Lips refused to be the guitarist of Motorhead and that Robb refused to be the drummer of another major metal band...
