Review of Anvil! The Story of Anvil (2008) by Reinhard P — 11 May 2010
Watching the band suffer through a series of hardly bearable humiliations, one can't help but wonder how they haven't taken a Greenberg-like turn into cynical world-weariness a long time ago. And itâ??s not like they arenâ??t struggling. Yet they manage a comeback from even the lowest of punches, to dust themselves off and try again, as the saying goes. Itâ??s by all means the oldest lesson in the book, but delivered as endearingly as this, it packs a really lasting punch.
Anvil may well be the first band to deserve fandom more because of their personalities (not their stage personae) than their music. While that may not be the most charming of compliments, it is sincere because, by the end of the film, youâ??re gonna want to wear their T-shirt. If not for their music, then all the more so for their outlook on life, which, to me, is as commendable as it is hard to emulate.
