Anvil is NOT "This is Spinal Tap". Anvil is not satire or parody of the heavy metal genre. Anvil IS a very human story about dedication, commitment, and obsession mixed with friendship, love, and support. You fall in love with Lips and Robb not because they meet your stereotypical heavy metal "rocker" image, but by going a millimeter beneath the surface the image is shattered by real and imperfect humanity.
I loved this movie for many reasons, perhaps foremost that the very existence of the movie itself will be the happy ending these 20th century Canadian Don Quixotes of mayhem ultimately deserve. Anvil stops one step short of full redemption, making me care all the more about the outcome.
