Review of Anvil! The Story of Anvil (2008) by Curt M — 26 May 2011
The best documentaries are driven by a compelling narrative. "Anvil! The Story of Anvil" is one such project. It tells the true story of some aging metal heads that cling to the hope of hitting the big time.
They have been playing since they were teenagers, and despite the entertainment world's predictable setbacks, their dream is as driving and compelling today as it was all those years ago. The band members have an admirable and unquenchable spirit, which drives them through negative circumstance.
For example, Steve "Lips" Kudlow frames the tour from hell this way: "Everything on the tour went drastically wrong. But at least there was a tour for it to go wrong on." One can't help but admire the way the band clings to hope and each other, despite fights and setbacks.
While it's a little sad, it's also heartwarming and inspirational. Rock on Anvil!
