Review of Anuvahood (2011) by Kenneth C — 07 Sep 2011
Doesn't know if it wants to be a silly borderline kid-flick or a dark comedy. The larger than life characters just felt wrong considering the quite graphics violence. A lot of the jokes are bait, cheap gags seen in nearly every comedy out.
The vast majority just use the same formula i.e. mesh something gangsta with something not gangsta (fruitellas, "chirpsing" an old lady) it just gives the film a shallow feeling minimal jokes that are actually clever.
I found most of the cast annoying, especially the overly goofy sidekicks. The best thing about the film tho is Tyrone, yes he is as ridiculous as the rest of them but he had the best one-liners and mannerisms.
Plot was cliche as hell as far as hood films go and Adam Deacon was unlikeable which is crushing considering he's the main guy who you're supposed to give a sh*t about. There are a few chuckles but overall it was big letdown.
