Review of Antz (1998) by Matt P — 01 Apr 2011
DreamWorks hadn't quite met that level yet that barely rivals Pixar. It was their early days, and they were competing. For that I give his movie credit. It is noting special, not as good as "A Bug's Life" I'd say but not too bad either.
The story was pretty good, almost felt like a Woody Allen spoof. Being as he's IN the movie, I thought the small idiosyncrasies of the ants and their daily lives worked pretty well. What I didn't think worked was the wrapping of the story, which felt too rushed.
Too many ants turning on one another, and not enough to sympathize with. Nevertheless, the animation is an early effort, and the end is quite ironic when it pans out to reveal where the whole ant hill society is.
No wonder Woody Allen was in this movie.
