Review of Antz (1998) by Kevin R — 17 Jun 2015
He's putting me in touch with my inner maggot.
Z doesn't quite fit in with the direction of his ant civilization. All ants believe in togetherness and working as a "we", while Z thinks they may be brain washed and there may be more to the world than the hive. He seeks Antopia and finds plenty of mischief along the way.
"I have a thing about drinking from the anus of another creature.".
Eric Darnell (Madagascar 1-3 and Penguins of Madagascar) and Tim Johnson (Home and Legend of the Seven Seas: Sinbad) collaborate to deliver Antz. The storyline for this picture is very well done and the voices are brilliantly selected. The animation was also first rate. The voices were provided by Woody Allen, Sharon Stone, Gene Hackman, Christopher Walken, Sylvester Stallone, Jennifer Lopez, and Danny Glover.
"Leave the pessimism to me.".
This was recently added to the Netflix online movie selection so I had to add it to my queue. I had seen this but not with my daughter. We watched it together and she loved it from beginning to end. This wasn't perfect, or a classic, but it is very well done. This is definitely a must see with your kids and borderline worth adding to your DVD collection.
"I feel physically inadequate.".
Grade: B.
