Review of Antz (1998) by Jarvis R — 29 Jan 2015
It was the year of 1998 when PIXAR and DreamWorks had heir battle for box office and story telling so we had a bug's life and Antz, both seem to be similar but are different.
Antz talks about an ant named Z, weird name for an ant, who feels that he is insignificant and that does not belong to The Colony which is a huge underground city, the population is divided in two, Soldiers and Workers, the Workers are , ironic, working on the contruction of a Mega Tunnel, Z is a worker whose only friends are a female ant worker Azteca and a soldier named Weaver, the Soldiers are leaded by Gen. Mandible, who think that Workers are indifferent to the Soldiers, so he is planning something to make a better Colony, yes the Colony has its Queen and Princess, named Bala, she is bored with her life, so one night she goes to a bar were Z and she dance, obviously Z feels in love with her but is unknown that she is a princess until a fight begun on the bar and she runs away. Z convinces Weaver to change places, so Z goes to a march with the Soldiers just to see Bala again, but he didn't know that the Soldiers are being send to war against The Termites, everybody dies except Z, he befriended a Soldier named Barbatus but finds him almost dead, before passing out Barbatus tells Z to not folow Orders all his LIFE. After going back to the Colony Z accidentaly kidnaps Bala and flee a magnifying glass, they get lost but instead of going back to The Colony Z convinces Bala to search a place called Insectopia, where according to legends insectes are free and they cand o whatever they want. Meanwhile Mandible searchs for Bala because "she is essential to the prosperity of the Colony".
So Antz has wonderful characters, yes it has a plot, the CGI animation for that year is excellent sincerley the scene of The Big Shoe is amazing and epic, and the soundtrack by Harry Gregson Williams and John Powell is memorable, it fits every scene and sounds mischievous. In my opinion Antz is enjoyable and too much fun.
