Review of Antwone Fisher (2002) by Steve L — 01 Sep 2007
Really like the story, but I don't have any particular strong feelings about the movie. that this is based on a real man's life, and that man labouriously wrote the screenplay to his own life story and got it made into a Hollywood movie is intriguing enough by itself.
Washington does a fine job both in front of and behind the camera, and Derek Luke is very good as well. the family scene at the end is very heartwarming, but other than that, nothing much about this movie wowed me.
it plays like what it is...a very conventional early 2000s drama. given the back-story, it's a shame it couldn't be better, but that's just the way it is.
