Review of Antwone Fisher (2002) by Jean-No B — 13 Mar 2009

Directorial debut for Denzel and it was fantastic. Such an engaging story and one that will bring tears to your eyes. The music is terrific, but the credit all goes to Derek Luke. You could see, hear, and feel the pain in Luke's performance as Fisher.

The story of his childhood was truly heartbreaking, but his ability to stand strong and overcome his past was triumphant. Both feelings stir up emotions and create an extremely effective movie. You want nothing but the best for Fisher throughout, but there's also an intriguing side story involving Denzel's character of the Navy psychiatrist.

The scenes with him and his wife were very well done as right from the start you sensed a distance between the two that covered an underlying problem. I kinda wish there was more to them as their fate is rather anticlimatic, but it wasn't Jerome Davenport's story, it was Antwone Fisher's and it was phenomenal.
