Review of Anthropoid (2016) by Alistair L — 16 Sep 2016
It's back to WWII and we're following an operation involving the Czech resistance. With the main characters both Irish, with Mr Peaky Blinders; Cillian Murphy and 50 Shades of the devilishly distracting Jamie Dornan, they make an interesting pairing, though neither is particularly convincing with their Czech accents, the same goes for Brit; Toby Jones - which is a shame as for the first part of the film you felt someone else should be playing these characters.
Even without knowing the story, you have a foreboding that something is not going to go well in this mission and thereon in the film is completely gripping and will have you holding onto the seat. As with many war films, you are left in sombre mood reflecting that the brutal events portrayed are still only a generation away in the past.
So it's a 2 out of 5 build up, but a 4 out of 5 finale.
