Review of Anthropoid (2016) by John K — 20 Oct 2016
Despite the many criticisms about the shaky cam or the name of the film (I mean, that's what the actual title of the operation was, are you going to change that?) I believe that at the root of it, "Anthropoid" was an excellently adapted film from the histories of Jozef Gab?ík and Jan Kubi.
If I can briefly borrow the words of T.S. Elliot, "History has many cunning passages, contrived corridors..." and for writer/director Sean Ellis, and Mr. Anthony Frewin to craft such a clean and artful screenplay from such a storied chapter of WWII in the backdrop of the beautiful city of Prague -- we are presented with a luscious but gritty, romantic and raw narrative.
Although it would have been a nice balance to see the inner workings of the elusive antagonist and target, Reinhard Heydrich and witness the dance between these characters, Cillian Murphy and Jamie Dornan's performances, although lacking the most authentic of accents, give us a nice insight into our heroes' inner states and treat us with a gripping presentation of the convoluted and weaving assasination of Reinhard Heydrich.
