Review of Anthropoid (2016) by Stephen G — 08 Nov 2016
Operation Anthropoid was arguably one of the most important moments in the earlier segments of WWII, and this film does a wonderful job of conveying the actions that led up to it's execution. Although there were subplots that can be viewed as wasted screen time, they are real historically accurate moments with real people. The movie starts with immediate action and violence but quickly dies down to a slower and darker pace. Just as it seems it is at the point to really get into character development, however, the characters have no choice but to continue with their plan immediately, and it pushes us into quite possibly the greatest 'last stand' scene in recent cinema history. Although the final 1-2 minutes we're a bit too artsy in my opinion, it did well conveying the emotion and mental stresses involved with the situation.
Go watch it.
