Review of Anthony Adverse (1936) by Jay N — 25 Dec 2009
Well, it's a very weak academy award nominee, but it's not too bad. It's long, boring, and badly plotted with some poor characterization-- a lot of Anthony's character development is assumed to have occurred, rather than have ogranically grown.
But it has solid acting and a grand feel that makes it clear why it was nominated. Not a must see, but not a waste of time (even it it is about 30 mins too long, as most of the first half hour could have been cut).
