Review of Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) by Healingtoolbox — 02 Oct 2018
The whole film has an improv quality I loved. I think easily one of the freshest scripts of the last few years. Peyton Reed was with Upright Citizens Brigade improv, I believe. The BIG~tiny gags in the first film are expanded and improved on here. More similar to the free quality of Thor Ragnarok than to serious, tense, Dr. Strange or Avengers. Having grown up with the comics, this air of improv and freedom is more in line with the the best of the Marvel movies and comics. Leave the serious Wagnerian operas to BatMan. As Todd McCarthy in Hollywood Reporter review mentions, the script could do with more emotional weight and consequence (10%?).
I was simply delighted to see the villain-supervillian chores spread out across several characters, all of who kept me engaged.
