Review of Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) by Tobias%20 M — 09 Jul 2018
One thing Marvel has done consistently (and which I believe they deserve more credit for) is delivering exactly (if not more than) what they promise. They are upfront about their movies (either directly or by allowing critics plenty of time to get the word out).
I always leave the theater feeling satisifed, and not exploited as I often do in watching movies from their rivals at Warners. In AMAW Marvel once again delivers. It is very much Peyton Reed and Paul Rudd's movie (who not only direct and act respectively, but also co write) and finds them operating at the zenith of their powers.
Some are arguing that the film is disposable, and while this may be true to a degree as it is with most blockbusters, at least it is that way by design and the ride is more than worth the price of a ticket.
This is screwball action comedy that all ages can enjoy, and one which has a good heart and a solid message. The film hits most (if not all, but this is subjective) its action and comedic beats. I am a bit dismayed that audiences are seeming to react somewhat negatively to its lighthearted and disposable nature, but I see a big difference between films like this one designed to simply deliver a satisfying and fun experience (god knows many of us need independent of Infinity War) and those that try to fool the audience into thinking they are so much more (looking once again at you Warners).
Lastly, to those of you who go to see this movie knowing you will likely dislike it, please STOP! If after 20 movies if you continue to watch with disdain there is something wrong with you, not Marvel.
