Review of Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) by Cork B — 22 Oct 2018
Ant Man and the Wasp is a fun, almost overly goofy romp. The bad guys we not very good, and you sense the filmmakers know this as they throw in extra bad guys just in case. The FBI detective following Scott is hilarious, but it just gets goofy at the end. I enjoyed this movie much better than the overly dark Venom or Suicide Squad. I also liked that the badie did NOT have the same shrink/grow powers that Ant Man has - it makes for a more challenging battle scene if the opponents have to look for advantage and not just clone each other's moves. And Rudd is always fun to watch!
The only real weak spots I have with this movie are: one - ant-man as a premise just seems weak and derivative, and two, some of the physics seems a bit off. Ok, you can shrink a building, but shouldn't it still WEIGH the same? And does shrinking give you super powers? People get kicked through walls - I don't know how shrinking helps that. The only explanation was in the first movie where they say you have regular human strength at a tiny size - but getting bigger didn't make you stronger.
