Review of Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) by Dominic B — 16 Aug 2018
Ant-Man and the Wasp has problematic pacing and, to be fair, Infinity War was a tough act to follow but after what happened in that movie, we needed a bit of lighthearted fun. And Ant-Man and the Wasp delivers.
There isn't tons of action, if only because of smaller stakes, but when there is, it's a ton of fun. The visual effects are creative and the movie has a good dose of humour, as is to be expected from the MCU.
Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly are also charming as well, with Scott Lang going through a decent amount of character development. And for once in the movies, the villain isn't an alien or a corrupt businessman.
Ghost isn't even really a villain. You sympathize with her, you subconsciously want her to succeed in her mission, since she's not trying to rule the world or ruin a hero's reputation. Ant-Man and the Wasp is a fun superhero comedy, even if it is the weakest MCU film in Phase 3 so far.
