Review of Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) by Circleville C — 24 Aug 2018

Preface: the following review is coming from someone who is not an avid viewer of the Marvel movies, and has a "fresh perspective" based on little to no exposure to them.

That being said, "Ant Man & The Wasp" is the second Ant-Man movie directed by Peyton Reed, and is another chapter in the ongoing Marvel Cinematic Universe focusing on each character, as they continue to churn out huge profits. The cast is jam packed with huge names - Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Pena, Judy Greer, Michelle Pfieffer, Lawrence Fishburne, Michael Douglas, and on and on! There are no complaints on the acting side of things, or the great special effects and cool graphics used throughout, including on "Ghost", the antagonist.

I freely admit to not seeing the first "Ant Man" and therefore was lost in a few areas, like how such a random average-seeming guy is Ant Man while there are so many more talented, skilled, intelligent others surrounding him, including the tremendously brilliant Hope Van Dyne who is The Wasp. I kept thinking throughout this movie, that the men are completely incompetent and are only contributing to the comedy value, for the audience's sake, and not providing any value to the situations throughout the movie.

This is a movie that has comedy, action and a storyline that apparently lines up directly with the Avengers universe (Be sure to stay through the credits for an important scene and be sure to watch "The Avengers: Infinity War" if you need to know what that was all about).

All in all, I rate Ant Man and The Wasp 3 out of 5 stars for entertainment value. It must be important to the grand portrait Marvel is trying to paint, but the unrealistic nature of the stunts, the characters and the copy-paste superhero movie formula made this a slightly above average movie. Take away the graphics and the tie-in to other movies, and this quickly drops out of value.
