Review of Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) by Jin T — 13 Jul 2018
So got a movie that was the calm before the storm and now we got Ant-Man and the Wasp as the the calm after the storm. Not in terms of story-wise. The movie gave me a refreshing feeling and also gave me a great reminder that Paul Rudd as Scott Lang has been the best choice ever since. With his usual sarcastic comedic ways at the same time being a good friend and loving father. With the mention in Infinity War, Scott Lang and Clint Barton are under house arrest. Scott spends his days withering away with boredom until Hank Pym and Hope Van Dyne finally comes in contact with him. That's when the story finally picks up and it was a good rollercoaster ride. I like to think this is better than the first Ant-Man film but who am I to say that one is better than the other when this sequel is actually an impeccable improvement for the characters and the story of Ant-Man. While finally giving us The Wasp we needed to make it happen. Michelle Pfeiffer did a surprisingly amazing performance as Janet Van Dyne and Laurence Fishburne posing as the former Goliath was a nice treat. Plus he had a fair amount of spotlight since his character heavily involves with the antagonist of the sequel's story. Hannah John-Kamen who played as Ghost, while not a remarkable villain but a distraught and suffering over the years who would finally make amends somehow in the end. Michael Pena comes back as the quirky character named Luis and again did a great performance. What's there to say with Michael Douglas's performance? Nothing because he's a legendary actor. Just like Michelle Pfeiffer. Which I also thought they did an awesome job on her younger version in CGI. Randall Park was an unexpected cast memeber in the movie. Not only is Luis, still a comic relief character but Randall Park who played as Jimmy Woo is also another addition.
Ant-Man and The Wasp is thought by many people a forgettable movie but for me, I like the Marvel character and Evangeline Lilly kicked so much ass as The Wasp that I wish to see more of her in the next Ant-Man film. Perhaps finally joining the Avengers. If not in 4, maybe in the future? It would be really cool. I enjoyed the movie and I had a few good laughs. The ending will shock you but the post-credits scene is an afterschock from Avengers: Infinity War.
