Review of Ant-Man (2015) by Diyar G — 09 May 2016
Ant-Man was such a surprise. I didn't think a movie like this would ever exist and I honestly didn't know anything going in, now I love this character! Let me go into what I liked/disliked.
Positives:
1. The characters; Paul Rudd nailed it as Scott Lang! You care about him and you see where he's coming from and he's entertaining. Michael Douglas was fantastic as Hank Pym, it was nice to see Douglas back and he was great. Michael Pena was hilarious and the rest of the cast was good too.
2. The tone and writing; this movie is really funny, in fact the comedy overtakes the action to be honest. This film surprisingly has heart to it and it did get emotionally powerful when Scott shrunk into those molecules. I love the scenes where Scott is tiny, its very entertaining and innovative too. especially the final fight scene which was all at a train track.
Negatives:
1. The villain turning into Yellowjacket was very tact on and rushed. There was no real proper build up to it. They should've showed scenes of him testing out the Yellowjacket, but he just puts it on in the last second for that final fight scene. It was so forced.
2. It could've been a little bit more funny at times. Originally Edgar Wright was going to direct but he left apparently because Marvel got in the way too much, which was a shame cause if he had directed this film, it would've been a lot more funny. But the final product we got was not that bad though.
Overall:
Ant-Man was a fun movie filled with humorous moments as well as heartfelt ones. I can't wait for the sequel!
