Review of Ant-Man (2015) by Mloy X — 13 May 2016
Scott Lang (Paul Rudd): Hey, how's your girl, man?
Luis(Michael Peña): Ah, she left me.
Scott Lang (Paul Rudd): Oh.
Luis(Michael Peña): And my mom died too. And my dad got deported.
[Scott just stares in awkward silence].
Luis(Michael Peña): [Suddenly enthused] But I got the van!
It's pretty cool, but for some reason I expected it to be better (still). I like the suit, I love Paul Rudd (Scott Lang/Ant-Man), Michael Douglas was a bit of a strange choice (Dr. Hank Pym) and unfortunately, for a really good a actor, he didn't sell his part well enough-- I saw a glimpse of Gordon Gekko trying to be someone he's not. Weird.. Evangeline Lily (Hope Van Dyne) was okay but unimpressive. Corey Stoll was alright (Darren Cross/Yellow Jacket) but not menacing enough; and the whole dead beat dad storyline was boring-- Scott is a loser, got it. How many times must we be beat over the head with it? Who was great (aside from Paul Rudd) was Michael Pena- nailed it! He was funny, entertaining and stole every scene he was in. Overall, the film was good, but they better kick it up a notch for the next installment.
