Review of Ant-Man (2015) by Dan E — 12 May 2018
What may sound as the silliest idea for a superhero movie ever turns out to be a widely entertaining and a very good film overall. "Ant-Man" is a smaller-scale installment to the Marvel Cinematic Universe than, well, any other film that has been part of this franchise, but that doesn't change the fact that it still manages to be an entertaining and quite heartfelt blockbuster.
Scott Lang is a petty criminal and a father that decides to stop stealing stuff and focus on his daughter. But when stealing stuff means turning into a superhero, he shrinks and becomes the size of an ant to help entomologist Hank Pym and his daughter Hope van Dyne to save Pym Technologies and the rest of the world from the evil Yellowjacket.
Despite a smaller budget than other genre films, Peyton Reed still manages to be creative with the action scenes. Paul Rudd gives a sweet performance as the lead and the supporting cast are pretty great too.
It has several touching moments, particularly between Scott and his daughter. The villain is generic, the plot isn't anything special and the overall franchise has too many great films already for this one to distinguish itself from the rest, but it's undeniably another really good and entertaining Marvel movie.
