Review of Ant-Man (2015) by Richard D — 27 May 2018
It's interesting how well this works since I think most of the parts of it don't really work. The plot elements are all fairly tired retreads of other films ,,, a bad scientist stealing the work of the good guy scientist, a nice-guy criminal who's ex-wife wants to keep him away from his kid, a heist plot that only kind of makes sense.
Although Corey Stoll is an interesting actor, his character is a dull retread of Jeff Bridges's "Iron Man" character. It works for a few reasons. Paul Rudd is an amiable non-hero. The film has a really light tone that isn't laugh-out-loud funny, but is consistently amusing.
It's like everybody involved knows this is a really minor chapter of the whole Marvel saga and just runs with it.
