Leigh's characters in Another Year (as with all his films) achieve an incredible sense of verisimilitude, because they are people you've seen, people you know and without a doubt reflect our own personalities.
To say extraordinary things happen in Another Year is not the case, Leigh and his cast, this time out, examine relationships how they're formed, broken and sometimes unresolved, set against the mundane aspects of life and it's in this simplicity that makes Another Year extraordinary.
