Review of Another Year (2010) by Mary P — 24 Feb 2011
Mike Leigh proposes a film so subtly made and filmed that it strikes immediately as a wonderful tour-de-force. The actors are all playing so good that, at times, I forgot this was a film, a fiction.
The message this film conveys is quite unsettling at second glance. This happy married couple in their early 60s are enjoying the bliss they built around themselves and confirm their happiness by contemplating the unhappiness of their "friends," their colleagues and family.
