Review of Another Year (2010) by Caleb M — 20 Mar 2011
Another Year manages to be hilarious and depressing during the same scene, sometimes switching back and forth between one and the other, but often managing to be both at once! Watching these folks eat while pining for someone, reminiscing, or simply catching up is illuminating, inspiring, and touching.
For the depressing singles, no one captures their helpless depression better than Peter Wight and Lesley Manville, while Jim Broadbent and Ruth Sheen are the perfect counter, as the happy couple everyone else admires and secretly envies.
