Review of Another Year (2010) by Choo T — 06 Aug 2011
This movie might put you to sleep if you've had a bottle of wine, but nonetheless it is a good reflection of a normal middle class existence in a world dominated by the raw human instinct of wants and needs. The honesty of middle class mediocrity is so true to the world we live in that it is almost impossible to turn the film off even if the boredom of watching it creates the need to crack open a bottle of vino for yourself. Beautifully acted and sensitively edited, it is an interesting look into the psyche of modern life, even if it is a British perspective. The intrinsic truth of imminent death lingers through-out, but is trumped by the seeming reward of staying true to the dream of a better tomorrow and a life less tarnished by the crap that the world flings our way..
Well worth a watch if you have the need to feel connected to reality, and masterfully directed keeping reality in mind, but perhaps a tad too depressing so keep clear of your razor blades or sleeping pills...
