If you like the honesty in Mike Leigh's films, you'll definitely like this movie. The acting is superb, and there is drama and pain along with great humor, as in the best plays and stories. The characters in the story are distinctly drawn, creating a believable foil for each other.
The ending might seem sad, as the character Mary slowly becomes aware of her pain and loneliness, but it is also a harbinger of the first steps she might take to improve her life.
