I love this film in every way. The direction is beautiful - everything from the profile shots down to the lighting. It's beautifully written and narrated, has loads of depth and tells a story that is at the same time both sad yet full of hope.

It's a film about endings yet it ends with new beginnings. The acting is superb and rarely have I seen such a compelling piece of acting as Gena Rowlands in the main role. It left me breathless at times.

I can't understand why some people find it depressing as to me it's an optimistic film about finding your true self and there is little to be sad about. For those who have some depth, are sensitive and believe in self-examination,this film should appeal on more than one level and may even make you take a good hard honest look at your own life.
