Review of Another Earth (2011) by Gary V — 28 Jul 2012
The woman who acts the lead role in this movie is also one of the writers. The result is a fresh and unique movie unlike anything you have seen recently. I want to compare this movie in my own mind to Contact with Jodie Foster (one of my favourite movies of all time).
The lead character here has a similar wonder for what is happening and unfolding in the universe (albeit while grappling with tremendous guilt). The dramatic tie between the male and female lead dominates the story (the sci-fi element is very subtle - but plays a major role in the ending).
And yes, the ending is a huge gamble, but somehow it works. You walk away somehow knowing what happened, even if you don't see it on the screen! Definitely worth a watch when you are in a contemplative mood.
