Review of Another 48 Hrs. (1990) by André G — 26 Apr 2008
As my 4-star-rating already indicates, I would not necessarily call this film a disaster. However, I do think that the producers and actors involved in the making process of this movie tried all too eagerly to meticulously recapture almost every element from the first movie.
The result is a incontestably funny movie with a watchable interplay between Murphy and Nolte. Notwithstanding, the movie cannot live up to the standards its predecessor had set 8 years earlier. I did not like the villains in this movie and the story seemed far-fetched.
I would watch this one again, but maybe the people involved in this movie would have been better-off without such an undistinguished second installment. This is, incidentally, the last movie with a relatively good performance of Eddie Murphy.
His movies from the nineteen nineties and everything he has done as of 2000 were often a far cry from his great work in the nineteen eighties.
