Review of Anonymous (2011) by Helen H — 17 Mar 2012
Not a horrible movie by any means... just not a very thought out one... it almost felt incomplete and spastic. The use of the modern theater as a framework device to start and end the movie was just an odd choice.
The movie already takes place in the 1600s so to make the movie have scenes going back and forth from the "present" day to 20 or so years later was highly confusing. The story had no focus and just felt sloppy.
The only positive things about this movie were really the scenes involving Shakespeare's plays. They were staged and directed very true to the time period. While I can't say I recommend this movie, I wouldn't say don't watch it.
I guess this movie is more of fans of the whole Edward De Vere vs. Shakespeare debate... but then again that was a pretty lame story... watch at your own risk.
