Review of Anonymous (2011) by Chantz A — 18 Mar 2012
I've always doubted the authorship of great works like Hamlet, Romeo & Juliet, and Julius Caesar. No way could this be the work of one man. And of course, Anonymous provided that storyline that could fulfill this belief.
Behind this movie's plot is that of the Oxfordian theory of Shakespeare authorship. It makes modest sense and believe me, provides a thrilling political plot that most drama fans could appreciate.
Of course, some would say it was over the top and simply pushed this theory to its limits. I would argue that like most movies it was made to entertain the idea and not necessarily preach "this-is-fact". I'm a big fan of the works of Shakespeare (and company?).
If you catch yourself wondering whether Shakespeare was real or not, then I would recommend this movie. Be warned that the twist may disgust you.
