Review of Anonymous (2011) by Stephen F — 21 Aug 2012
For anyone who has delved into the controversy surrounding Shakespeare authorship, this movie brings that drama about the drama to life. Superbly filmed, wonderfully acted in particular Redgrave, Hogg, Armesto, Ifans.
I fear a general audience will not understand how much of this is historically accurate. The critics have not done their homework. But the real message of the film is about the walls in front of human creativity, before which and behind which there is pain on the way to perfection.
Congrats to Emmerich on crossing over into the historical "Fach", and Orloff's weaving of the web of de Verean biography. Have already watched it thrice. Highly to be recommended.
